Food tips given for Obamas’ new dog

Holistic vet Dr. Randy Kidd, veterinary adviser of Rainbow Light Nutritional Systems, recently offered advice to the Obamas on the care of their dog Bo, according to a Rainbow Light press release.

Kidd believes home-prepared foods are the best, but says pets should at least receive a high-quality food, and for most commercial foods, a little added meat will be beneficial. He added that serving from many different food sources is the best way to provide most or all of the essential nutrients.

Supplements should also be incorporated into the diet, including a balanced omega-3, -6 and -9 fatty acid mix to enhance the immune system and to help a healthy growth phase; probiotics to help maintain gut health; and a balanced vitamin and mineral mix, Kidd recommended.
